It’s no secret that children love summertime. They get to play, go to camp, spend time with family, and best of all NO SCHOOL. While the summertime offers kids the freedom to explore and learn new things, it also brings the potential for summer learning loss. Research shows that students lose literacy and math skills over the summer break when they are not engaging in any educational activity. On average, they fall one to two months behind where they were in the spring.
What Can You Do to Prevent This?
According to Barbara Dianis, author of Don’t Count Me Out! A Guide to Better Grades & Test Scores PreK-12, half an hour to an hour set aside daily can help students close learning gaps and perform at higher levels during the upcoming school year. Therefore, Genius Plaza is offering FREE online courses to help students independently maintain their math and language skills. Our virtual summer camp is led by students for students! For one hour a day over the course of 20 days, students can review and practice key topics they learned last year. Courses are available for K-12 in English and Spanish.
“Traditionally, what happens is the students finish the school year and then go on vacation, and really don’t spend the time reading or practicing the math skills (they acquired), so our program is offering a platform where they are going to be able to reinforce the concepts they learned throughout the year,” says Michelle Emirzian, Genius Plaza’s Chief Academic Officer.
How Does Summer Camp Work?
Every course has 20 lessons with one student-created video and one exercise. Each day the student will need to login into their account on a desktop, tablet, or mobile device. Then they will need to follow 3 simple steps a day to review, practice, and show what they learned.
Our summer camp program will help your child overcome summer learning loss and return to school ready to tackle the challenges of the school year. To get started browse our courses and register at any time for FREE.
