Recently, Genius Plaza and our CEO Ana Roca Castro were honored with the Kapor Center Impact Award, along with four other leaders in the technology industry, for our efforts toward diversity. I’ve talked about how proud we are of our work, and this recognition for us was a celebration of our mission.
You see, as Ana mentioned at the event, “Geniuses live in every zip code; however, opportunities – unfortunately – are not spread equally among all zip codes.” At Genius Plaza, she emphasized, we work “not only be able to reach those geniuses, but also to be able to give them the quality education that they deserve.”
We are humbled to be included with these incredible leaders, and join in celebrating the great work of Leslie Miley from Venture for America; Shaun Tai, Founder & Digital Director of Oakland Digital Arts & Literacy Center; Regan Patterson, mentor and instructor at the SMASH Institute; and Theresa Lawless, partner at Lawless & Lawless. Watch this video to learn more about these incredible individuals making an impact.
Kapor Center created this award to celebrate outstanding efforts to boost greater inclusion in tech entrepreneurship and in the tech ecosystem. Categories included Building an Inclusive Tech Ecosystem in Oakland, Promoting Access to Quality STEM Education, Fostering Diversity & Inclusion in the Tech Workforce, and Gap-Closing Entrepreneurship.
Congratulations to all the honorees. Thank you to Kapor Center; for us, this recognition is inspiration to continue delivering on our mission of igniting the genius in every child as we work to democratize education.
